I submit that the Swallows and the Amazons had a little time left over at Alma Cottage, after returning from Secret Water, and before taking trains to their boarding schools. Commander Walker, having recently returned from China, was full of tales of piracy on the China Coast (it was, after all, the principal task of the RN on the China Station to suppress it!) and this inspired them to compose a sequel to "Peter Duck". They did not leave out the D's on purpose; it was just that the D's were not there to include themselves.
