On my last trip, my sister and I stayed at the George Hotel, in Bloomsbury- near the Russell Square Tube stop. It's a remade Georgian house (in fact, the whole crescent seemed to have been made into little hotels) that served breakfast as well. We found it through the London Tourist Board website.
Not too expensive, at least in the winter months.
