Roger dodges a piece of rock 'as big as a Latin dictionary' in PP. UK Amazon doesn't give a size, but Cassell's Latin Dictionary is 1.30 x 9.34 x 6.42 inches on the US site. Since he knows how large the dictionary is, I assume that he'd started studying the language.
Also, he's able to light candles by PP. Either he became old enough between winter and summer, or the rule in WH was 'don't light matches in the house.'
