Things are getting a little astray - can anyone tell me where this mysterious edition of Winter Holiday is - one that mentions John getting in the eleven and not the fifteen?
I have checked: all Cape editions including the first edition, both Puffin editions, both Red Fox editions, the U.S. Lippincott and Godine editions, the Canadian and Australian editions and the Cresset Press edition. All of them have the same - he is worried about not getting into the fifteen.
If, as the FAQ site states, there is such an alternative edition, then I am happy both to stand corrected and to beg for a copy for my collection!
Incidentally - the French and German editions both "sit on the fence" and merely mention "football" without specifying the number of players in the team.
