My recollection is that the next paragraph makes it clear(ish) that Mrs Blackett has been holding herself in while Aunt Maria (GA) has been staying and that she is now "letting herself go". I.e. she has been conforming her behaviour to that which her aunt would expect and require of her during Aunt Maria's visit to Beckfoot, and now she is reverting to her normal self. But this is pure recollection - I am away from my copies of the books.
