At the first meeting of the Ss & As, Peggy says that they had been coming to the island for “years and years”. They got Amazon last year, and before then they “used to come in a rowing galley”. SA Chapter 10, The Parley, when Nancy tries to stop Peggy “chattering”. So “years and years” might be an exaggeration, but they had come there by rowboat before they got Amazon.
A long row no doubt, but those were the days of rowboats and bicycles!
