The kind of pipette Timothy wanted actually would have been the type used for measuring small volumes of liquid reagents. See, for example, http://www.umd.umich.edu/casl/natsci/slc/slconline/PIPET/sld013.htm

It probably would not have survived being used as a blowpipe in Dick's gold refining efforts.
