I meant the dyke where it joins the lane, which is about the only accessible place where you can get an idea of the atmosphere of Secret Water without a boat.

I haven't been there for a few years, when I walked down the lane to the southern end of the Wade, and you're right that is very Secret Water-like.

But what about Beaumont Quay? And there seems to be a road and path to Landermere Hall and on to White House. That would be very close to the location of Witch's Quay. The map seems to show a public way. Is it?

It's too far from London for me to casually drive up and have a look...

As for Walton being horrible and trashy, I confess to a lingering love for these really awful, run down British seaside towns. Mind you, almost nothing reaches down to the level of Jaywick Sands, which is fairly close by and which we discussed here a while ago.
