Interstate traffic in the US (especially in the East) is horrible, but I am always thankful for them as they carry the bulk of the agressive masses. I take the back roads all the time, unless there is no other alternative. I got lost in Atlanta on the freeway and about got crunched in Nashville before I discovered the back roads in that part of the country were actually very civilized. I live in Kansas and the two lane roads are the only way to go! How about Philadelphia in January at 10pm in a rainstorm and I am doing 75mph and being passed like I'm parked by monster trucks - this was driving my 1951 Ford. I guess that traffic in the UK is just as bad, although when I was there it didn't seem so, but then I was taking the public transportation.
