TARS is full of elderly eccentric English people, all very genteel and all very much in love with Arthur Ransome and the lifestyle of Swallows. The scary thing is that I can see us being like them in a few years!
OK, let's go through the charge sheet:
'elderly' - Wrong. In my Region, a fifth of the membership are Juniors, for a start. Their parents are not 'elderly' either.
Port and Starboard define their father as the Aged Parent - my guess was he was 40ish if lucky. To the kids we are ancient
'eccentric' - OK, I'll hold my hand up here. When you see some of the things we argue about . . . we argue about Latin morse, God and the I word in the one week, and we talk about clinker boats. There are a few people that probably think we need to be scheduled and medicated
'English' - WRONG!! Try saying that at the recent AGM in Edinburgh!
Does that prove the English will not travel north of Oxford on a good day let alone late in May
'all very genteel' - ha ha ha ha ha (gales of hollow laughter) ah ah ah ah - I think this board is genteel to a large degree - there is the odd flame but not to much. And there is only limited talk of the S word usually involving Susan and the guy that got hit by a bus and ended up looking like an Arab. Whereas my 13 year old daughter talks about boys and the s word all the time.
'in love with AR' - if the accuser means AR's works, then yes I reckon we are all in love with those. I certainly am. But AR himself - not me. If I could meet him, I doubt if I would like him very much. I agree on this one - he does not seem to have done much to love his daughter
'lifestyle of the Swallows'. Again, not me. I don't fancy a camp without latrines . . . Then per chance why read the stories if you do not dream of the world. -- Please it is like my ex brother-in-law saying that he reads the Playboys for the articles, if that is the case why does he hide them in the closet from his teenage sons. At least there are no stapes thru Roger's belly in any of the pictures."
'I can see us being like them in a few years!' - You'll be in a very small minority! I disagree - I see Ed as being genteel and nice
I think the description is very good.
