In reading an old copy of WoodenBoat magazine (S/O '99), I found a tidbit where the author compiled his top 25 list of 20th century maritime-related authors. They included, in no particular order:

Bill Adams, David Bone, Erskine Childers, Gerald Warner Brace, Maurice Griffiths, L. Francis Herreshoff,Rudyard Kipling, William McFee, Nicholas Monsarrat, Sir Henry Newbolt, Samuel Eliot Morison, Alan J. Villiers, "Shalimar" (F.C. Hendry),Hilaire Belloc, Joseph Conrad, Lincoln Colcord, C.S. Forester, Jan de Hartog, Rockwell Kent, Jack London, John Masefield, Patrick O'Brian, Joe Richards, H.M. Tomlinson, and... Arthur Ransome.

Not surprisingly, I didn't recognize most of the names, but then I only learned about AR a few years ago.

Is this a reasonable list? Should I be looking specifically for any of these at my local library book sale? Is there anyone the list missed?
