Mr Farland mentions (in BS) during the confrontation with George O. & Ralph S. that he is acting for the boat owners, so although Constable Tedder is there it is still a private meeting to decide what action to take. Hence he refuses the fee of 6/8d that Dorothy offers him, though it is apparently the correct solicitor’s fee. He says it could be construed as a bribe (ie he is acting in a judicial capacity) ! 6/8d or six shillings and eight pence is one third of a pound (£). Earlier, one of the D&G’s mothers said that perhaps they should be staying at home instead of getting into trouble out on the river in their boat.

The D&G's salvage the Margoletta (in CC) when it hits the pile and is holed, by towing it out of the deep water channel. For that, Rodleys (?) the owner of the Margoletta do some work on their boat.
