"Not only does this programme seem to get frequent repeats (it was on both this week and last)"

I believe that when it was supposed to be on last week, it was replaced by a programme from the same series about the filming of Far from the Madding Crowd. No doubt the showing of one programme in the series was cancelled because of some sports or political event, and all the others got shunted along one.

It could well be shortened from the original version. The BBC, which has always had lots of repeats, seems to have taken to showing a lot of modified repeats lately. Series like "What the Romans Did For Us", which originally comprised half-hour programmes, get chopped up into ten-minute fragments which are repeated frequently.
