Rattletrap was a smallish ancient open car with dented mudguards and four doors. Four doors not two, so she (she for a car as for a ship?) cannot be an Austin Seven or Austin Chummy? She appears in two of the “Lake” stories, PP and PM (as discussed in 2001 & 2003, Nos 7959, 7980 &10324). But not in SA, SD or WH.

There is a picture in PM showing her with a rounded bonnet/hood, but without the rear luggage grid referred to in the text. This picture is at the end of Chapter XXVI (page 266) though the episode (the GA stranded) is in Chapter XXIII, and is also on the bottom of the dust jacket.

PS: our family had an Austin “Big Seven” once. The “Big” was relative of course, quite a squeeze with three boys & camping gear in the back!
