With respect, may I suggest that you delete "bucket rope"; I humbly submit that the bucket has a lanyard.
But Ransome was describing the "Goblin" from the perspective of the inexperienced Swallows, and in so doing, giving his non-sailing readers some insight into the experience, a regular AR technique (cf using the D's viewpoint in WH) so the "Goblin" appears to have ropes everywhere.
