I'm not usually good at "the anticipation thingy". I usually do the oppposite of what my mother taught me: I get the pleasures out of the way first so that I can concentrate on feeling bad about the unfinished unpleasant duties. But on the occasion when I didn't land on Peel, I was already in danger of not getting the boat back to Coniston until after the place had closed. I didn't want to pay for an unintentional overnight hire, and I didn't want to spend just two minutes on Peel. It would have been an anticlimax to decades of imagining the place. Far better to do it properly another time when I can get real pleasure from it.
