Don't know from where you are renting, but from what I've been told, one should always reserve/pay from abroad with an established firm. eg Budget. (I've had, I hope, good luck doing this.) Also, if one rents using, for example, a Gold VISA card, one is exempt from paying for any damages, whether your fault of not. (The last time I returned the car with a damaged fender/wing. The car was hit when parked. I walked away - after some paper work - with no cost.) Go for it - it is worth it to drive in the country. Watch out though. They drive on the wrong, rather the other, side of the road.
