Each of the twelve Japanese editions has the first AR illustration coloured in with a quasi-watercolour effect - I think quite tastefully, but others may disagree. I certainly don't think it's a bad joke! Japanese editions here
On the subject of first editions I agree that a rebinding in morocco actually negates the nomenclature of "first edition" - I'd rather have a set of original firsts in good/tatty/average dust-wrappers (as indeed I do) than a fabricated pristine set. Perhaps the heritage of our ancient cathedrals with their 700-year-old stonework should be "improved" and protected with a good coating of modern concrete.
