Sounds like an introduction to about two or three more good adventure books - the Swallows and Amazons on their way back to England in a Chinese Junk - shades of Richard Haliburton, who attempted a Pacific Ocean crossing in a Junk in 1937. Almost leaves room open for someone to continue the Saga after the fact like various writers did with Mr. Baum's Oz adventures.
