I could see Prester John as a film which would not offend modern sensibilities.
Although some of the attitudes expressed in Prester John are very non-PC, they are mostly internal thoughts and occasional statements which could be omitted and I doubt that they would be so obvious in a film presentation.
It has a complex black hero/villain, a white Portuguese villain, a weak, semi-villainous Brit as well as the heroic Scottish lad. The plot has and unsuccessful black rising against the white settlers and getting defeated but that is more a backdrop to the dramatic demise of the black hero/villain and the escape of the Scottish lad.
