Ah. Thanks for that, Richard. The series was shown out here by the ABC, I suppose in the late 70s. Like a dill, I didn't chase it up straight away. A few years later, when I did, the daughter of a friend of mine was working for the ABC and she chased it back for me to the UK somewhere, but then the trail died. I'm pretty sure I remember the series' being a co-production with Thames TV though, and that Jessica told me that it had been retained by Thames, not by the BBC. So perhaps it might have been lost altogether when Thames died? Perish the thought.

There's apparently a Note or Query of some sort about the series in Issue 29 of the JBS Journal. I'd be interested in seeing what it might contain, but as a non-UK non-member of the Society I don't really want to buy the journal to find out (particularly when the Note is indexed as "TV Version of John McNab.")

I daresay you're right about Prester John's present political-incorrectness. On the other hand, if they can butcher The Thirty-Nine Steps and get people to watch the result, you'd think someone could correctly-politicise Prester John and still make a reasonable film out of it.

I suppose The Bible is politically-incorrect these days too. < sigh >

Anyway, good luck in your endeavours, Richard. If you care to let us know any findings you're able to produce about the series and what happened to it, I for one would be most interested in hearing them.

Mike
