Without wanting to get back onto Class Warfare....

'Coarse fishing' basically is any fishing which isn't fly fishing for trout or salmon which are fashionable and expensive and so reserved for the nobs.

Coarse fishermen are the idiots who sit in a line along the banks of rivers and canals and shout abuse at you when you excercise your right to navigate along these waterways, sometimes fouling your propellor with their beastly lines. Fly fishermen may be nobs but at least they confine their activities to water that is unnavigable.

'Coarse anything else' I fancy was invented by Michael Green as an extension from this philosophy.

'The Arts of Coarse Sailing' and 'Coarse Cruising', especially the latter, are well worth finding and reading. i have never read a better description of the sort of cheap, unpretentious, fun sailing that I do than 'Coarse Cruising'
