This kind of speculation sounds like fun. Here are some ideas. Commander Walker was probably assigned to shipboard
duty in the North Atlantic, off the coast of Africa, or ? His family was always very independent anyway, and may have
made Holly Howe a semi permanent residence during the war years to be
away froim Blitzkrieg attack. The Callum Children would most certainly have left
the big cities in the South, and may also have wound up at the Lake. I guess they
would all have tried to find ways to help.

I wonder what changes in lifestyle the Lakes District folks experienced. I'll bet
there are people who regularly read this board who know a good deal
about it.
