Nice to know they're farming native oysters in Goblin Creek. But are you confusing Mersea natives with the Portuguese? The latter were dumped by the million from there before the war, and are three times the size - but coarse in flavour.'Only fit for frying, stewing, soup, putting in puddings, and throwing to the cat'. We used to smash the shells with a hasmmer to feed the chickens mash.Together with gleaning wheat from the fields before combine-harvesting made it a waste of time.The real Mersea natives suffered much from starfish, but were second only to the Roman ones at Colchester, used for the annual Mayor's Oyster Feast.
