Out of a paper this weekend fell a gift catalogue called ‘Nauticalia’. To my surprise they are offering all 12 AR hardbacks at £12.95 each or £129.50 the lot.

Arthur Ransome’s twelve books about adventures in small wooden boats are utterly captivating: you can feel the breeze on your cheeks, smell the bacon sizzling in the pan, see the sun setting over the still water. Sailing through the night, roaming through the woods, camping where and when one wishes.

And so it goes on. They have obviously never heard of the National Trust. In the same catalogue there are: Yachting Caps . . the brims covered in soft fawn-coloured suedette on top with navy cotton twill beneath . . . .embroidered with a crew position in cotton thread . . Good - that's Laurence M's Christmas present fixed.
