In the LAKELANCAM pictures, it seemed that some of the jettys were quite level, while others seemed to have a lower far end, and that made me wonder if maybe it was not a customary design but merely a natural sagging over time. As for the effect of tide; of course that is never the case with the lake, but a varying amount of rainfall does cause the water level to change, sometimes covering the end of a slanted jetty. The idea that the deck subjected to being under water is also subject to accumulation of slime and thus become very slippery underfoot is however a concept that had not occurred to me, which would indeed be a condition that would be undesirable, both on a personal and a legal basis. The other concern of a jetty slipping under water would be the hazard to navigation, as being under water, it is not all that obviously visible, and thus becomes an underwater object ready to snag some unspecting boater in a hazardous manner. So it seems reasonable to conclude that the sloping deck is not intentional, merely the result of the effects of considerable time. We all start to slope a bit in time. Perhaps we could also say, we all get a bit more slippery as age progresses.

Not having had a chance to personally visit the Lake District, I am so very grateful to Tony Richards, and his DAILY contributions to the LAKELANCAM.CO.UK web site, for the fantastic scenery that he and his camera have captured. It is a daily assignment for me to pay a visit to that beautiful display, and to download his daily offerings to add to my growing collection, ready to be viewed in SLIDE SHOW mode, to continuously thrill and delight me with those views that have now become so real in my mind, enhancing those images that Ransome "drew" for me in my mind's eye with his artistry of verbal description.

It is a bit amazing if I were to actually admit as to the large amount of time I spend staring at those Slide Shows EVERY DAY. The collection continues to grow, with Tony's daily contributions, for which each day my gratitude only increases. A true Ransome fan is really missing out if they daily do not visit Tony's web site, and take those few minutes to simply drink in the beauty of the place that Ransome made so real with just words.

For you folks that actually live near or in that area, take the time to look about you, and try to SEE it all, as if for the first time, and feel that appreciation of having the best around you every day.
