I understand that the term is in use amongst the younger generation who went to sailing schools and who were taught in boats made of silica and polyester. The meaning is as surmised by Laurence.

I would not dream of using it aboard Mirelle, as a decent gaff cutter she would be scandalised. And we still need half an hour to start the engine! Plans to replace this 37 year old monument to Swedish engineering have been postponed for 20 years, now.
