For pity's sake, Peter, none of this matters in the slightest. AR overdid the duffers bit. Everybody makes mistakes, I blush for the many I have made, but nobody else cares in the slightest. If people get into real difficulties there is always somebody to help, usually in the "there but for the grace of God go I" spirit.

They may on occasion laugh when people make complete idiots of themselves, but you can't make me believe that this doesn't happen on the fells and the crags in exactly the same way. I admit that I have laughed, and am in no doubt that plenty of people have laughed at me,
which doesn't worry me in the slightest.

If you have read AR you will find nothing mystical if you try sailing. I find it one of the great experiences of life, and your sailing can be as laid back or as hairy as you like.

You really are missing something worth experiencing if you don't give it a try. My invitation is perfectly genuine, but if you don't want to take it up then as a member of the NB Trust why not have a sail in her?
