What dreadful fate awaits those who make mistakes? What nameless horror?

Well, clearly, Arthur Ransome writes a book about it . . .

Swallowdale John rams a rock, sinking Swallow
We Didn't Mean To Go To Sea John loses the anchor through failing to make sure the chain was secured
Missee Lee Captain Flint forgets to extinguish the smoking light prior to refueling, resulting in burning and sinking of Wild Cat

Any other "dufferish" synopses anyone would care to offer? Quick review of the series suggests that dufferish incidents do happen throughout, but those are the ones that were triggers to their respective books.

SA: night sailing
WH: Nancy & Peggy go through the ice; Dick catches a crab
CC: Dick goes over the stern while quanting
SW: Titty, Roger and Bridget miss their tide
PM: the aforementioned "How Not to Lower Sail", also the somewhat muddled landing at the head of the lake
GN: Jemmerling and his sailor get careless and capsize Mac's folder on the loch.

It is interesting to note that with the exception of the D's, who are just learning, most of the duffers were the experienced sailors.
