I am afraid I am going to invoke my membership of the Tarboard Pedants Club. 'Tantrum' means (OED) 'display of temper or petulance'. On this basis, 'gentle-natured' people are perfectly capable of having tantrums. John said that 'it was unsafe to disagree . .' Note the 'unsafe'. This does not, I submit, mean quiet snivelling tears, it means drama and mayhem, prejudicial to 'safety'. And good for Titty - for me, this enhances her character.
