But WD has been reported with 35 lpp

If you're referring to my post which mentioned WD, I said 34, not 35. I can't prove it but my guess is that the original 1937 edition had 34 for some reason, and that my 1955 reprint preserves exactly the original layout - probably set from the same type. In fact, I suspect that all 4 hardbacks I own, all post-war reprints, preserve the layout of pre-war (or wartime for PM) editions.

Were the Penguin/Puffin books photographically reduced print of the original text?

No. They were definitely reset. Some examples of changes are:
the chapter numbers are in Arabic, not Roman;
the running titles are in small caps, not full-size caps;
the chapter titles in the contents table are in mixed-case italic;
the picture titles in the list of illustrations are in mixed-case Roman;
the maps have been moved from the endpapers to other locations in the front matter, and are in black and white;
some of the wording on the maps has been re-drawn, and in at least one case ("Kanchenjunor" in PP) an error has been introduced.

In the seven titles I own the lines per page are WH 35, CC 35, PP 34, SW 34, B6 35, ML 35, GN? 34.

The only title Ihaven't mentioned yet is SD, for which my Puffin fell apart, and I now have it in Red Fox paperback. This is different again.
