What we are not told is the legal position concerning Beckfoot, which is probably the normal one, i.e. if Bob Blackett owned Beckfoot and if he was wise enough to make a will, he would have left it to his two daughters after a life interest to his widow. If the house was owned jointly by Mr and Mrs B (less common in those days) then Mrs B would acquire full interest as survivor. Mr B may have created a trust with more complicated provisions, in which case Jim Turner might well have been a trustee. It is unlikely that the GA had any legal interest in Beckfoot at all, but she exercised control by other means . . . .
