I think WitW is a little more obscure over here than Heidi; also Heidi being the name of the book would help establish the reference to the casual browser. Given publishers' cover layout habits, I'd imagine that the original had The Canary Coloured Cart writ much larger than One Family's Search for Storybook Europe, causing the casual observer, in the US at least, to expect it to be the latest Travis McGee thriller (for the uninitiated, John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee mysteries all bear colour names in their titles).
