There is also a bus from Heathrow to Hereford. It's a lot cheaper. The trip takes a long time, but it's a pretty ride. You need to reserve a seat, which you can do over the Internet. You can pick up the ticket at the bus station when you arrive at heathrow.
There's also a bus from Hereford to Hay-on-Wye. I don't know the schedule, but you can probably get it on the Internet, or email the Tourist Centre in Hereford. You would probably need to break your journey in Hereford and stay overnight there.
