Peter,

Moxie is indeed a type of soda. It's not really like cream soda, it's really a step beyond Dr. Pepper or root beer. It's a very strong, distinctive taste with a small but loyal following. It's hard to find outside of Maine, where one town (Lisbon Falls) even hosts an annual Moxie festival.

Perhaps I should also explain that to "dis" is to "disrespect" as in "put down" (modern street slang).

I thought grog in AR terminology was ginger beer, which I absolutely love. It was cream soda?
