Given that you can't sail round the equator, presumably a fair course would have to equal or excede the circumfrance of the earth at the equator ( I assume that the circumference is greatest there but expect to be soon told otherwise).
If you started from Hobart you would have a shorter trip but given the sea conditions no-one could call it easy!
But I don't see Ellen as Nancy, I think Titty would be closer to the mark. As has already been said Nancy is portrayed as too sociable, too much in need of others to "stir things up" for. Titty; however, was more of a loner and possessing that peculiar stuborness of the dreamer.
BTW Much as I admire solo circumnavigators from Josh to Ellen, I don't quite understand why soloing in sailing has become the pinnacle of achievement. It seems to me that a boat that size should have a crew to drive it to the limits of endurance. Sailing alone makes it harder but there again so would sailing with one hand tied behind your back. In mountaineering it is quite different; soloing is quicker and more fluid, until something goes wrong of course.
