"Throughout Book One, readers who want to know where they are should use the map of northern rivers which makes the first end-paper".

Does anybody have any information which may be useful to me?

I'm not quite sure what you need to know. In my copy (J.C 1948) those words are in a 'NOTE' at the beginning of Book One.

At the beginning of Book Two, page 192, an equivalent NOTE says "From now on, readers who want to know where they are should use the map of the southern rivers which makes the final end paper"
