I think we discussed dowsing a few years ago, but my opinion still is that the flowing water creates a disturbance in the local magnetic field, and a good feeler can find the disturbance using a variation on the Hall effect. (Like a pigeon finding its way home)

Of course it will never be proved or disproved.

One thing I have noticed in the Southern hemisphere I know usually where north is, in the USA I get lost all the time.
