And if Roger had fallen untethered, it wouldn't have been a tragedy? Are you sure that they didn't know how to belay? Titty was just crossing over the edge, which suggests that the rope wasn't long enough for that particular pitch to be handled in one go, but there's nothing presented to suggest that anyone was incompetent, or that anyone other than Roger was careless.
