This colonial was a small boy at school in England back then. I was staying with one grandmother in Somerset over Christmas, my other one lived seven miles away. I was due to see her on Boxing Day but it snowed so much we put it off. She was cut off for a week or two by drifts that filled up the lanes between the high hedgerows and they had to drop supplies to the village.
