Several random resonses
Ford Prefect's choice of pseudonym (and I don't think we ever learn his real one) doesnt't prevent Arthur Dent from accepting that he comes from Guildford.
The habit of adopting car names spread. One of my daughters took the soubriquet Toyota Starlet for a while.
Adams and cars, more generally: There's a Citroen 2CV in one of the Dirk Gently books that is so obviously Marvin in another life.
(Incidentally, re Citroens, has anyone else noticed that it's latest baby car is so determinedly retro that it should have been called the Citroen Deja Vu)
And lastly, will the two colonial Davids (Bamford, Oz, Thewlis, California) kindly stop rubbishing the M25. It's our orbital route and we can grumble about it ourselvs thank you I have to go exactly halfway round it, in either direction to get from here to Nancy, and I'm commuting on it at present. Most of the time it works well (I'm touching, nay clutcching wood as I write this)though when it does have a seizure, it does so big-time.
The only real problem is that if you miss your exist, you have to go 120 miles til it comes round again.
