I'm a recent discoverer of Ransome, having only just stumbled across Swallows & Amazons last fall. I've read that, and Peter Duck, and I'm finishing up Swallowdale now. So I'm not sure which story you are referring to above, but I intend to enjoy the ride as I get there.
