Shaun -

Ian spoke for us all as we envy those who can say that there are some of the twelve books that they have not read yet. The adventure of discovery is yet before you. It was always with great joy when I discovered yet another Ransome story that I had not read; it was with a degree of sadness when I realized that I had just finished my twelve offerings. It was done.

The finality of that moment reminded me of the old fisherman at the Roaring Donkey after they displayed the huge Pike the boys had caught, as he observed that they were so young, and now, having caught that big fish, had nothing left to live for. (That is in BIG SIX.)

The moment I recalled in a previous note, where Jackie showed them how to keep the milk bottle by putting it in a cavity under a flat rock by the stream was taken from "Picts and Martyrs". If you come to love Nancy, that book is very special. Sorry I had not made that reference properly. Now go, and enjoy, and enjoy... You have still so much to live for...
