If that's for chamfering the planks, I'd definitely see about getting the band saw. The way gas prices are going, the repeated trips back to the store for warranty replacement would eat the price difference (to say nothing of the number of blades you're going to need)! You'd probably be able to find one that can cope with 1" pine routinely, but oak's in a whole different league, as you're discovering.
