As always, Ed, you leave us breathless. I had remembered a couple of the instances you mentioned, but I am glad I kept quiet until you replied!
If you haven't already done so, Ed, it would be interesting to see a list of the different foods -- brand names or not -- that the Swallows and the Amazons eat. My impression -- apart from the (mythical) Missee Lee adventure -- is that they seem to survive on a diet of pemmican, bread and marmalade, bunloaf and oranges. And no marmite (so I don't want to go).
