Jeremy - thank you for the comments - I understand the frustration most feel at the disconnect between the syllabus and the real world of work.
There is a real push at Texas A&M university to make our students more acceptable in the workplace using student learning outcomes. All our students are required to do a semester of work as part of the course, and complete reports on the work. It is always the problem making the education system relevant.
