My Great Uncle Mervyn John Nichols died at age 21 in the second world war in a bomber. My other great uncle was captured on Crete and spent four years in Poland. I have little tolerance for groups that run away from their crimes whatever the motive or intention, I believe that one introduces students to the harsh facts and the opposing views and then teach them a sound ethical conduct.

I consider personally that the Japanese should apologize to the Chinese. I like reading Buchan - but I do not like the personal descriptions that he used from time to time. To some extent one sees the descriptions of Germans in the other war book, whose name escapes me as I type this, as being at a level of racial vilification. Even Dad's army poked the odd humourous quote at the Germans. I liked the old Butcher and his steel joke.

We will never get rid of the human differences in society - no matter what good will is extended. People are human and linking to ones own kind is a natural bonding thing. overcoming it will take a bit more evolution.

I know I villify engineers from time to time because at times they have made my life miserable. My wife tells me I am unfair. I consider letting 1 year old babies die from malnutiron or medical error is unfair, I see me telling an engineer that he is a galoot for using imperial to weigh a child as being entirely approriate given the level of his understanding of the risks to the child. Nancy sure taught me well.
