Dear Folks:

I have tried other boards, none has the bitter tenderness expressed so lovingly on this board. I could not forsake you all and turn to a lesser place. Now as far as the last post is concerned:

Re: Russell - never heard of the dude, I know NZ is some small island just east of Australia and it has a lot of sheep and one or two good sailors. But it has been years since I followed the America's Cup and Lasers - ugliest boat the Devil ever invented and that was on his good day.

Re: Article: The humour on being dunked reminded me of being dunked at Coniston and having a wife and child saying - take us back to Holly Howe. Instead I taught them perserverance and pleasure and sailed on for Wild Cat Island, with these words ringing in my head "I have waited 35 years to sail to this island and no one is going to stop me." Only to be greeted by 30 - 10 year old boys in canoes, natives ruin everything. But of course I can dream of my boat.

I got two more planks planed down last night using the industrial planer. The last plank cut from one side of 4 quarter plank has developed a nice cusp warp, and so I reach the ultimate conclusion taking two oak planks from one is not viable. I planed these last two planks taking alternating strips from the two sides. I also got the boom rougly shaped, using a router. The router is a high speed tool that spins a cutting head. It is much easier and faster than hand planing. I had tried the book method of using a plane and a sparmakersjig. I completely stuffed the first go. But I had a big boom so I could save the mess.

Also learnt from making the boom out of mahongany, one ends up with a lot of red shavings that stain maroon anything they touch. The grass outside the garage is red. Looks like some sort of triffid like disease.

Anyway got to go read a paper.
