I realise that you may, logically, want to start them off at the beginning of the series but my own children read the AR books as and when they found them in the house.
My own books have had a varied life which accounts for their battered (treasured?) condition. As well as being novels the have acted as piers for O gauge model railways, backing for targets for a .22 air pistol fired indoors, tents for model soldiers, substitute steps for reaching high shelves etc.
It is a tribute to the bookbinders that they have survived. But the dust jackets were early casualties and I have now made my own replacements.
