Touring San Francisco with friends yesterday -- both scientists -- we went aboard a 19th century square-rigged ship, The Star of Alaska, and the conversation turned to sailing. Looking at my friends' two kids, aged 11 and 13, it occurred to me to comment, "You should read..."

"Too late," I was told. "They've already discovered him."

In fact, at their school (in Silicon Valley) a visiting folk musician played a tune he called "Peggy's Reel" and offered a free CD of his music to anyone who could tell him who "Peggy" was. Five children (including my friends' son) got it right.

It is heartening to know that AR continues to be discovered.

(Both kids are now in the midst of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe books... showing the breadth of their good taste!)
